Migration is well under way and the sightings are coming fast and furious. I will post all the action, starting with the return of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds to my backyard feeder. A male appeared first and these are some photographs of him at the feeder. Note that his throat feathers can take on many shades from black to gold depending on the angle of the light. Don’t let the cuteness and tiny size fool you. They are very aggressive defenders of THEIR feeder. Many birds will muscle in on a feeder but don’t do more than make a smaller step aside while they get their fill. It is an entirely different matter for Hummingbirds. They will chase another Hummingbird completely out of the area before returning to the feeder. Other birds aren’t even allowed to queue up!

Next…Sparrows.
Gotta love hummingbirds!
