It’s been a frigid few weeks here in New England. No surprise to we natives. But there are some who have no problem with the cold at all. It was just a day at the beach for this Snowy Owl despite the the wind chill in the teens (Fahrenheit). It was having a nice rest on the seaweed that piled up on the breakwaters during the last storm. That’s the mouth of the Merrimack River behind it with Cape Ann in the distance across the Ipswich Bay. Doesn’t he look comfy?

These Harbor Seals are having fine time resting on the rocks just upriver from the owl. Blubber sure comes in handy. Unfortunately we humans can’t handle that much fat. Thank goodness for long underwear, modern parkas, other cold weather gear and Hot Hands to put in our gloves!

It’s hard to believe that neither the seals nor the owl were as cold as we were!
