Snapshot: Bald Eagle

It takes a Bald Eagle a few seasons to take on the iconic look of white head and tail with a dark brown body. This two year old eagle has the heavily mottled appearance for that age. Photographed at the Missisquoi NWR in northern Vermont. This is a good site to spot Bald Eagles since the refuge is situated where the Missisquoi River meets Lake Champlain. There’s plenty of fish for them to hunt or steal. Personal Fun Fact: My drive to the refuge takes me through the nearby town of Georgia Vermont. My ancestor, Joseph Dinsmore, moved there a bit over 230 years ago. The family lived there until my grandfather moved to central Vermont.

  1. Great look at the hot-mess plumage of an immature bald eagle. We had an adult in the yard this week. Never get tired of watching these fabulous birds.
