From Deep in the Clutter: Wood Duck

This photo is from deep down in my photo clutter. It was in a 9 year old folder among a group that I was consolidating. The posing Wood Ducks caught my eye and I decided to do some processing.

This pair of Wood Ducks was enjoying the early morning sun on top of a rather precariously leaning nest box. It was a cool April morning and they certainly seemed to be enjoying the warm rays.

The picture was taken when I first started doing wildlife photography as a hobby rather than just something I happened to do while walking or hiking. It was probably shots like this that switched me from a casual snapshot guy to a more serious amateur. I got hooked on trying to catch birds in an interesting pose, in flight or in some other action in addition to the typical portrait.

  2. Very cool. I love wood ducks! And my friend who is a professional wildlife photographer says that the trick with birds is to get something more than “bird on a stick,” which you have done here. Good job!
