Found in the Clutter – Glossy Ibis

Now that it is April, we are watching for early migrants. One of these is the Glossy Ibis. These photos are from April 2020. Glossy Ibis are found in Europe, Asia and Africa. Here in North America they are found along the southeast coast of the US from North Carolina to Louisiana on the Gulf Coast. They are also residents of Cuba, Hispaniola and several other spots in and around the Caribbean. Some migrate up the US coast as far north as southern Maine to breed during the summer months. We’re on the lookout for them in their favorite spots, wetlands and wet agricultural fields. They look mostly black from a distance but as you can see, they are very colorful.
