I decided I would quickly do a new post even though I just posted a few hours ago. The first snowstorm of the 2023-24 winter here in Massachusetts was a whopper. After seeing nothing but a few flurries so far this winter, I received 14 inches (36 cm) of snow in 24 hours. Needless to say, the birds were very interested in my feeders! I took a few quick photos before I started digging myself out.
A Carolina Wren surveys the area before going over to the feeders.

Dark-eyed Juncos move into our area from the mountains during the winter. These sparrows typically feed on the ground but swarm the feeders when the ground is covered. They do find sheltered spots such as those under evergreen trees as well. They flash white outer stripes on their tails when they fly.

I just love the wren photo!

I am lucky in that I have a pair that nest close to my home. They are a fun little bird.
