A Cooper’s Hawk has taken up residence near my home this summer. It perches all around the area and often vocalizes. I am sure it has an eye on my feeders. The local birds seem to be aware of it and have been successful in evading it for the most part. At least I haven’t found any evidence of a fatal encounter near the feeders. Cooper’s Hawks are fast, agile flyers and proficient hunters so there probably have been a few fatalities. The resident birds are on alert though. The Chickadees, Blue Jays and others sound an alarm when they spot the hawk. I took these photographs after it made a pass at the feeders and was perched nearby. It flew off after it spotted me but not before giving me a piece of its mind. I got some nice photos and the other birds got a little respite from their hawk watch.

So cool! These are great shots.
