I noticed something at the top of the steps to the front door of my house as I was passing by the door. This juvenile Cooper’s Hawk wasn’t selling anything though. It was looking for a chipmunk. These little ground squirrels were pretty scarce this year! It was one of the offspring of the pair of Cooper’s Hawks that nested next to my home. The photo was taken this past summer.

I imagine they’re now stalking your songbirds occasionally….they do like your property apparently!

They have nested nearby for the past three years, getting closer to the house each year. Maybe they will be asking about the spare bedroom in a couple of years!

Great shot! It looks cute, but it is deadly.
