An Osprey flew almost directly over my head and I managed to capture this head on shot. It was flying slowly and my shutter speed was high so the focus turned out pretty well for a bird flying toward the camera. Not a shot I typically get.

The Tricolored Heron is a small heron, similar in size to Little Blue Herons and Reddish Egrets. It’s distinguished by the white band down the neck and white abdomen. This is a Little Blue Heron coming in for a landing in a roost of Egrets, Ibis and Herons. The bird in the background is a White Ibis.

A male Red-breasted Merganser has surfaced with his catch. Photographed in cold rough waters on the coast of Maine.

These are a few of the photos I took of Brown Pelicans fishing near Naples, Florida in November. The bird in the middle photograph is hovering as it picks out the target. One is hitting the water in the bottom photograph.

I found this photo from 2023 when I was cleaning up keywords in Lightroom. The dike system in the Parker River refuge is closed to humans except during special occasions. This Surf Scoter seems to really be enjoying the surf after a big storm.

Alligators may not be avians but they and crocodiles are the closest living relatives of birds. Photographed at Corkscrew Swamp in Naples, Florida. No photographers or alligators were injured in the production of this photograph.
