Marsh Wrens are small birds that nest and forage deep in the reeds and other thick vegetation in marshes and near ponds. They are almost always heard but not seen. This view is typical for the few occasions that you do see them. You only get quick views like this if you wait patiently for one to pop up for a moment.

But every once in a while you get an individual that decides to go to the top of the reeds to proclaim his territory. This gives a rare look at the full bird. That is definitely the beak and short tail of a wren.

The show was short and he dove back down to disappear into the depths of the reeds again.
