The Eastern Wood-Pewee is a flycatcher that breeds in the eastern US and winters in northern South America. It’s not particularly small and size is not the inspiration for its name. It is named for its call, “pee-a-wee”. Like many flycatchers, it likes to perch in an open position where it can watch for insects to pounce on. It will return to the same perch many times while hunting insects. I was able to stand fairly close to one and watch it go after insects, return to its branch, dine and then look for more.

It has spotted something in the low bushes along the trail.

Success! Another nice meal.

This bird was so sweet and he is a poser. Anita
